On August 23rd, 46 Willard Street, Liverpool (UK), was demolished. “By ours…” – local slang for “in our house” - captures a moment where the vernacular collapses. No. 46 was one of the 165.000 houses earmarked for demolition within and around Liverpool, as part of a controversial policy with deep social consequences. The sound of demolition gives concrete expression to this trauma in which coherent structures tumble into urban upheaval, and language too loses its place. A digital print shows the precise coordinates of the site, in an aerial view simulated from a 3D laser-scan, made shortly after the house tumbled earthwards.
